Matthew G. Watters is the president of Midwest Heritage Financial Services and has been in the financial services industry since 1995.
Matthew began his career as an insurance agent and registered representative with Northwestern Mutual Life and Robert W. Baird Securities. He learned early on the importance of not just building wealth for his clients, but also protecting the financial legacies his clients had spent a lifetime building. In 1995, Matthew obtained the Des Moines General Agency record for top new agent production.
Matthew left Northwestern for an opportunity to provide investment and insurance services as a registered representative of AmerUs Bank. Matthew was later promoted to manage the bank branch while continuing to provide investment and insurance services to his clients. During his time at AmerUs, Matthew developed the non-traditional investment planning approach and was asked to consult with several out of market bank programs and research groups to help them replicate the success achieved at AmerUs.
Matthew continued his career in the financial services industry as a regional vice president for Essex Corporation, the nation's largest third party marketing firm. Matthew was responsible for the wholesale distribution of mutual funds, variable annuities, and insurance products to bank representatives, wire-house brokers, and independent financial planners across the Midwest. This gave Matthew in-depth experience with multiple investment products as well as distribution channels ranging from large brokerage operations to small community banks and independent financial planners.
In 1999, Matthew decided to leave the extensive travel behind and took over management of the investment program at Commercial Federal Bank in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Missouri, and Kansas. By 2001 Matthew was named First Vice President of Commercial Federal Investments, Inc. and took over the management of all investment sales and compliance for the entire nine-state Commercial Federal operation. Under Matthew's leadership, Commercial Federal Investments, Inc. achieved a national top 10 rating for gross revenue in thrift investment programs.
In 2004 Matthew was hired by Liberty Bank in West Des Moines, Iowa for the sole purpose of planning, creating, and bringing online a wealth management program from "scratch". Matthew accepted the challenge and within 18 months had built a program with 6 financial planners and a fully functional 15+ employee platform program within the bank.
In October of 2005, after building the Liberty Bank program, Matthew decided to leave the bank wealth management business and build his own firm with the mission of providing holistic financial planning solutions in an independent office. Matthew formed the corporation, Syndicate Financial Services Group, Inc. offering a full array of financial solutions to individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations, and institutional investors. Within four years Matthew had grown his practice to include 5 independent financial planners as well as a group of insurance agents writing business through his insurance agency.
In 2009 Matthew was approached by Midwest Heritage Bank, a Hy-Vee company, to merge his firm with the Bank's financial services program and take over the leadership of the combined organization. Matthew accepted the offer and has been building the Midwest Heritage Financial Services program ever since.
