Grocery Shopping Tips That SAVE You Money

posted on Wednesday, April 15, 2020

Covid-19 has changed consumer’s grocery shopping patterns around the country.  Although grocery shopping is essential to your family’s well-being, there are many tips to help you save during these unusual times.

Below are a few tips that you should keep in mind before your next trip to the store:

  • Plan All Your Meals for the Week:

    • Thoroughly plan out every meal that you are going to eat from home for the week. This gives you an idea of the ingredients you don’t have and, what you need to pick up when you get to the store. Once you buy what is on your menu, you are more likely to stick to it.

  • Create a List and Stick to It:

    • Before going to the store, go through your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer. List out everything that you need for the week. This includes snacks, ingredients, meals, drinks, etc. Take the list to the store and STICK TO IT.

  • Shop Once a Week:

    • Unless it’s an emergency, limit yourself to going to the grocery store one time a week. Grab everything you need for the week the day you go. Shoppers tend to buy more unnecessary grocery items the more times they stop in the store.

  • Utilize the Free Hy-Vee App:

    • This is a great tool to use to check up on everything that is going on at your local Hy-Vee. In just seconds, you can see this week's deals and coupons, tap to load them to your Fuel Saver + Perks® card or shopping list, check your Fuel Saver balance, quickly refill a prescription, sign up to receive sale alerts, get access to app-only deals, discover new recipes from our Test Kitchen ... And more!

  • Skip the Grocery Store All Together and order through Hy-Vee Aisles Online:

    • The Hy-Vee Aisles Online App lets you order groceries in minutes—from anywhere! Shop by category, sale items, products with Fuel Saver rewards, or just type the product you want into the search bar. You can even use the voice recognition feature to say “milk” or “cookies,” and it will show you your frequently purchased brands.
